Victorian Women Lawyers welcomed its members to take part in an evening discussion gathered at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, addressing the legal and policy responses to the non-consensual distribution of private sexual material. This is an issue that disproportionately affects women, and which many of us have only recently begun to understand as an emerging form of family violence and sexual assault. Proposed reforms to the law intend to make it unlawful to share, or threaten to share, private sexual material. The panel leading the discussion included,
- Susan McLean: Australia’s leading expert in the area of cyber safety
- Tim Watts MP: Federal Labor Member for Gellibrand
- Dr Nicola Henry: Senior Lecturer in Crime, Justice and Legal Studies at La Trobe University Powell
- Belinda Lo: Principal Lawyer of the Eastern Community Legal Centre.
